Is Using AI Like Golf?⌗

My friend Adam was talking about a contractor and said something like “He’ll be out of work soon. He’s just a code-monkey”. I’m not quite sure what makes a code-monkey distinct from a non-code monkey in this future world. But I am now using AI regularly, and it reminds me of golf.

I’ve never been a big golf player, but I’ve done loads of crazy golf.

Like crazy golf you can get started easily, the objective is sometimes obscured and the amount of effort you put in up front is really important. Writing a prompt and missing a critical word can lead the word-prediction programme down into a bunker, and getting to your objective can take many more attempts than you thought.

And there’s a lot of waiting about.
